Implementing Qualitative Approaches to the Dissertation Research Paper
Implementing Qualitative Approaches to the Dissertation - Research Paper Example The problem is aggravated by lack of concern among members of the society and relevant stakeholders. Algebra is an essential part of mathematics. Learning mathematics is considered a basic feature of all education systems around the world (Hyde & Mertz, 2009). The importance associated with the subject can be linked to its ability to develop individuals with strong analytical and problem solving abilities. As a result, it is an important requirement for a workforce that can solve the challenges of the modern economy. In particular, algebra teaches individuals critical thinking. However, it is unfourtunate that the American society does not seem to be worried about the poor performance in intermediate algebra. In addition, an internet search revealed that few people have focused on the poor performance in intermediate algebra. Instead, the existing studies appear to have focused on basic mathematics or other stages of learning algebra. Understanding the causes will enable all the stakeholders to solve the problem in an effort to enhance the quality of the education system. The primary objective of this study is to establish the level of poor performance in algebra in the United States. The research will set the stage for comprehensively understanding the problem by evaluating the underlying causes. The focus on the causes of this worrying trend is influenced by the belief that the formulation of effective intervention measures depends on having a strong garsp of the challenges facing the instruction and learning of intermediate algebra. The secondary objective is formulating appropriate measures to deal with the problem. The last objective is to contribute towards the existing literature on the issue so that policy makers have a large body of work to use in creating policy measures. The qualitative nature of the study will influence the design that will be adopted (Englander, 2012). For instance, the process will rely on

Why Is the Initial Consultation Important Essay Example for Free
Why Is the Initial Consultation Important Essay In this essay I intend to discuss why an initial consultation is so important, before delivering any hypnotherapy to a new client. I also will look at the ethical factors a therapist should cover at the time of the initial consultation. Prior to any course of hypnotherapy with a new client a reputable therapist would want to learn more about the person that has presented before them. This would be done with an initial consultation. It could be said that this initial consultation would be free of charge and last around half an hour. Some however, would say that you are giving half an hour of your time free of charge. Although my thoughts are that it would make clearer sense to not charge as a client would not feel that their time with a therapist was being wasted by a therapist just asking questions. (Although how this was advertised should be looked into very carefully as stated in (module 3 worksheet), the words ââ¬Å"free consultations?â⬠could be open to misinterpretation were the words ââ¬Å"free initial consultation!â⬠is clearer and states exactly what is offered). There are a number of aims of the initial consultation. The most obvious reason for this would be to give the chance to meet a client face to face. Also a therapist would at this time be able to ensure that the client would benefit from hypnotherapy and indeed that hypnotherapy is the right course of action for that individual case. Also this gives the opportunity to gather as much information as possible about the prospective clients and the reason they have decided to undertake hypnotherapy. It is important that the reasons they are there are fully understood for example someone that wishes to stop smoking must have an incentive to why they are seeking hypnotherapy to help them quit. This should be investigated fully! are they there because people are nagging them to stop? Are they there because they themselves have reasons to want to stop? Perhaps they see smoking as unhealthy for them and those around them partner, children etc. The therapist should always dig deeper perhaps find out if there are anytimeââ¬â¢s that they smoke more cigarettes. It could be that when that person gets stressed for a particular reason they smo ke more as aà way of dealing with it. This will influence the hypnotic suggestion during the therapy. ââ¬Å"A suggestion is a communication by the hypnotist to the subject and, as with any communication; it is intended to alter the recipientââ¬â¢s feelings, thoughts and behaviour in a specified way.â⬠(Pg 3, Heap Dryden.) During this the therapist can also discover the reason why the client has thought that hypnotherapy will help them. In addition the therapist is also establishing if they themselves have the skills to help the client. A therapist would also have the opportunity during this consultation to gather other information such as medications? Are they on medication if so what and what is it for. Perhaps they suffer from depression! With such a condition it would be prudent if this has not already been sought to gain the permission of their doctor before a course of treatment commences. (This of course depends upon the skills and experience of the therapist. There are some mental illnesses that should not be treated by hypnotherapy such as Bi-polar disorders etc(Heap and Dryden) There are other conditions and illnesses that could also present an issue with using hypnotherapy as a treatment and again would probably need permission from a Dr before any commencement of treatment. Modality an individualââ¬â¢s modality can also be assessed at this time this would help with the selection of an appropriate style of screed for any treatment. There are many other avenues of questioning during this initial consultation. However, I would like us to assume that we have followed all lines of question that we feel appropriate during the initial consultation and all is well and a therapist decides that the client will benefit from hypnotherapy. Let us also assume that the client has presented to us with a very low self esteem issue! For the purpose of this Essay and descriptive demonstration we shall call our client Jane. During the initial consultation it was established that Jane is going for a new job that would mean a promotion and more responsibility and to her surprise she managed to get the job because it is with her existing employer and her immediate boss recommended her for the new post. Jane however feels she is not capable of fulfilling the new role and feels more secure doing what she is doing right now as she knows that job inside out and is good at it. The new job has more responsibility and she would also be in charge of other members of staff. During the consultation it was established that Jane feels that she is not much good atà anything. What Jane has shown a therapist is that she has learnt this behaviour from somewhere? A little bit of digging into her past may establish why Jane feels this way. This sort of feeling is trapped within the subconscious mind and is brought across to her conscious mind. During further questioning it is established that Jane when she was younger was the middle child of three. Her parents would show more attention to the other children and praise them for achievements more than they would Jane. Jane recalls them saying on many occasions that she is useless and should be more like her siblings as she wonââ¬â¢t amount to anything!!! This has presented Jane with a negative belief in her subconscious that in turn has made her believe that she is indeed useless. With the prospect of the new job role and promotion she believes she wonââ¬â¢t be able to do the new role. Despite her current boss believing she can. Janeââ¬â¢s conscious mind is hearing her boss say you would be ideal for the job therefore we have a conflict. We now thanks to the initial consultation know where we should begin to help Jane with her self-esteem. To work with the positive aspects such as her bosses confidence in her and the fact that she herself admits to being good at her present job. It can be safely assumed that Jane was not born doing that job and indeed had to learn to do it. Also to work at the root or the negative beliefs she has that where placed into her subconscious by her parents during her childhood experiences. None of this could have been achieved if we did not have an initial consultation. Had Jane had just come along to a therapist and said I have low self-esteem. The Therapist says ok ââ¬Å"Now close your eyesâ⬠Well nothing would be achieved ââ¬Å"unless a total flukeâ⬠. Therefore this demonstrates the importance of the initial consultation. An ethical Therapist during this consultation would also look at other factors while deciding if a course of hypnotherapy will benefit and what course of action to take. A client that presented to you although had unrealistic expectations. This is a client who would otherwise be a good subject for treatment, but has the view that Hypnotherapy is a magic cure all. A patient such as this may seek hypnosis as a form of treatment because he has already tried a series of unsuccessful therapies. He is looking for something quick and easy. Even though hypnosis often works more rapidly than other forms of treatment, it cannot be expected to accomplish the impossible. (pg 280 Hypnosis for change Hadley and Staudacher) To inform a client thatà everything is possible when it would not be would be a lie and would shadow doubt on the ethics of a therapist. An example would be a therapist that is presented with a client and the client wants a therapist to get rid of the strong feelings she has for her ex boyfriend and believes that the therapist can make her hate him rather than love him. This would be impossible. Even if during hypnosis the client did hate her ex boyfriend it would not be possible to continue into waking Hypnosis and this is due to a separation between our subconscious and our conscious minds this is known as the CCF (Conscious Critical Faculty) The CCF is a sort of filter. For example I could say that the grass is blue but you actually know it is not blue it is indeed green. That is because your conscious mind has the ability to be critical of suggestion therefore I could say the grass is Blue until I was blue in the face. You however, would know it was Green. Although I could suggest this under hypnosis and you would probably think the grass was blue until you where no longer under hypnosis because youââ¬â¢re conscious mind and the CCF would say once again it is Green. Therefore we could not change or do the impossible and it would be totally un-ethical to even attempt to proclaim to be able to do this just to secure a client. The most important ethical consideration a therapist should bare mind to is to be realistic with the therapists own ability as to take on something that clearly is beyond the therapists skills or remit could lead to MISAPPLICATION That is using the wrong treatment stemming largely from failure to diagnose correctly during the initial consultation. For example, A common request for anyone who employs hypnotic techniques in therapy, is for help of chronic pain, pain suppression or pain management and increased tolerance is readily achieved with a good proportion of people who make such a request. The potential then exists for the sufferer to learn to mask the symptom of the disorder which if progressive or life threatening, may place him or her in danger- at least of not seeking appropriate diagnosis and treatment until the disorder is too advanced to be treated. (pg 187 Heap and Dryden). Therefore if the therapist is using a good ethical practice during the initial consultation He or She will know their limitation and abilities. Other ethical issues that should be adhered to not only at the time of the initial consultation are laid out by the National Hypnotherapy society and to cover some of these in brief. That a therapist should not holdà discrimination towards anyone based upon their Religion, gender, sexuality, politics, disability, age, marital status. It is important that when a client asks a question pertaining to their treatment and their goals that a therapist answers the question as fully and accurately as possible if an answer is not known then to make something up would be a big mistake that could hold serious consequences. Therefore a therapist should endeavour to find an accurate answer. This would not undermine the clientââ¬â¢s faith in a therapist if done correctly. For example that is something I would have to investigate further however I should have an answer for you in a day or two perhaps I could call you or we can speak at our next session. No lies have been told and the client is still happy. An Ethical practice puts the clients Welfare at the forefront and offers a service with respect, dignity and understanding. The Role of the Informal Sector in the National Economy :: Economics
The Role of the Informal Sector in the National Economy MOZAMBIQUE Introduction ============ In an attempt to respond to the topic this essay will discuss the role of the informal sector in the Mozambican economy. For a better understanding of the topic some important definitions shall be given. For the purpose of this essay, the concept of economy can be defined as the science that deals with production and consumption of goods and services, the circulation of wealth and the redistribution of income. On the other hand, the concept of the informal sector was introduced into international usage in 1972 by the International Labor Organization (ILO) in its Kenya Mission Report. Though there is no consensus on the definition of the informal sector, coupled with the fact that in Mozambique the concept varies with the different periods of history, the following are the common characteristics of this sector as defined by ILO: (a) ease of entry; (b) reliance on indigenous resources; (c) family ownership; (d) small scale operations; (e) labor intensive and adaptive technology; (f) skills acquired outside of formal sector; (g) unregulated and competitive markets. Since that time, different authors and the ILO itself introduced many definitions. The ILO/ICFTU international symposium on the informal sector in 1999 proposed that informal sector workforce can be categorized into three broad groups: (a) owner-employers of micro enterprises, a few paid workers, with or without apprentices; (b) own-account workers, who own and operate one-person business, who work alone or with the help of unpaid workers, generally family members and apprentices; (c) dependent workers paid or unpaid, including wage workers in micro enterprises, unpaid family workers, apprentices, contract labor, home workers and paid domestic workers. (Santos in Dhemba; 1999) Mozambique Social Economic Situation ==================================== The signing of the peace agreement and the implementation of the Structural Adjustment Program (SAP) in Mozambique caused an impoverishment of the poor, especially in towns where the decline in purchasing power is most felt as it is harder to find alternative income to buy food. The liberalization of the market opened up the possibilities to import goods, however, the purchasing power of Mozambican citizens are still very low. There was a rise in the levels of unemployment as a result of the mass retrenchment originated by the implementation of the SAP policy. According to a World Bank study, and many other studies, unemployment is a strong indicator of economic crisis. In spite of all the measures taken by the Government to bring about economic and social development, this development was not percolating down to the masses fast enough. Due to the pervasive effects of the globalizing economy, population growth and urban migration, the active labor force was growing at a much faster rate than the availability of

Hunting should not be outlawed Essay
Hunting should not be outlawed. It is still a source of food for people who still live off the land . Hunting can be a very effective method of population control. Hunting is a sport of tradition it offers recreation from everyday life. Hunting animals for food is better for people because it does not have all the hormones that farm raised animals have. There arenââ¬â¢t very many diseases that affect humans in wild animals. Majority of the animals that have seasons are edible. Hunting is a very effective method of population control. If too many animals of one species or several related species live in one area they could possible wipe out there entire food source or sources. Then many of them would starve to death which unknown to the tree huggers that want to stop this is a very painful death, being shot is a very quick painless death. Hunting can save an ecosystem and entire species, by killing some of the animals in the ecosystem you can save the food source for the animals still left living. Hunting is a tradition in most of the world. People have been hunting for tens of thousands of years. Many people still use hunting as their many food source throughout the world. It is also a recreational activity. Traditionââ¬â¢s should not be outlawed. Hunting can help save the environment in which they live in by population control. It is a source of food. Itââ¬â¢s an activity that people have been using to get away from society as we know it for several years. In conclusion Hunting should not be outlawed.

The 12 Best Journalism Schools
The 12 Best Journalism Schools SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips When you have a niche interest like journalism, it can be difficult to find reliable information on the strength of undergraduate programs. To help you get your college search going, weââ¬â¢ve rounded up a list of the best journalism schools out there for aspiring writers, editors, and reporters. Ranking Criteria for Top Journalism Schools College ranking lists can be really helpful if youââ¬â¢re just starting your college search- theyââ¬â¢re great if you want to get a general idea of what schools are out there and whether they fit your interests and criteria. The danger comes with using them as the be-all, end-all source of info about college quality- ranking organizations all use different methods for coming up with these lists, and theyââ¬â¢re not always transparent about the process. Although this ranking list should also just be used as a jumping-off point, I want to be much more transparent about the process used to compile this list of best journalism schools. First, I started by searching for colleges and universities that have a dedicated journalism major for undergraduates. After that, I took these major criteria into account: School Reputation- Journalism has grown increasingly interdisciplinary as communications and media have changed with technological advances. Itââ¬â¢s important that undergraduate students have access to other strong departments within the school as well, so I considered the general reputation of the school when compiling this list. Graduate School Reputation- Although I only listed schools here if they had a dedicated undergraduate program, schools got points if they had a well-regarded graduate department in journalism or communications. Undergraduate students studying journalism will often benefit from faculty and resources from the graduate program. Career Preparation- Journalism is a field where itââ¬â¢s super important to get plenty of hands-on experience before jumping into a career. I looked for schools where students were getting plenty of prep working in the field (e.g. internship opportunities at local or national newspapers or news stations). Class Options- A reputation for providing a strong foundational knowledge is important, but interesting, unique classes are definitely a plus. Journalism classes in more niche subject areas may also signal a creative faculty with greater resources to spare. Alumni- When departments have many notable alumni, that signals a strong alumni network and a strong journalism program. This boosts the reputation of the school and may help out when youââ¬â¢re starting to look for jobs. The Best Journalism Schools The caveats I listed for ranking lists above continue to apply here: although this list was compiled in a transparent (albeit unscientific) way, you should use it primarily as a jumping-off point for your own research. I encourage you to focus less on the strict order of rankings (which is pretty subjective to begin with) and more on the individual characteristics of each school. #1: Northwestern University Journalism is one of the most popular majors at Northwestern, and for good reason. There are many programs in place to ensure that students are well-prepared for careers as journalists. Some of these programs include: The Journalism Residency Program- Students spend time working as reporters or public relations specialists at media outlets across the country (and sometimes even internationally). The Media on the Hill Program- Students serve as mobile journalists and quickly update info on events in DC. Medill Justice Program- Students examine potentially wrongful convictions and look into criminal justice issues. Special courses offered through the school include interesting electives like ââ¬Å"The Googlization of Americaâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Journalism in a Networked World.â⬠Finally, Northwestern hosts one of the top graduate journalism programs in the country in addition to an awesome creative writing program. #2: University of Missouri- Columbia (Mizzou) Mizzou is a large public university thatââ¬â¢s well known for its undergraduate and graduate journalism programs. There are over 30 different interest areas (i.e. concentrations) available to undergraduate journalism students, including ones like ââ¬Å"Entrepreneurial Journalismâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Magazine Publishing and Management.â⬠If none of the existing interest areas meet your needs, you have the option to design your own. Hands-on opportunities in real-media labs are available to students in each interest area. There are also quite a few relevant student groups on campus, including ones like the Association for Women in Sports Media and the Student Society of News Design. #3: Boston University BU is a well-ranked school in a bustling college town- the area around the school (never mind the school itself) comes with a lot of opportunity. The school itself- which has produced 24 Pulitzer Prize winners- combines a liberal arts background with plenty of pre-professional training in the field. Undergrads have many different focus areas to choose from, including Online Journalism and Magazine Journalism. Students often intern at prestigious Boston-area news organizations like the Boston Globe. Finally, BU boasts a strong journalism master's program, which indicates access to plenty of awesome faculty and other resources. Living in a hub like Boston opens up a lot of professional opportunities. #4: Syracuse University One of the best universities in upstate NY, Syracuse offers eight different undergrad programs in journalism and communications, including Broadcast Digital Journalism and Newspaper Online Journalism. The school maintains several industry partnerships with major communications companies, leading to professional/networking opportunities. Special programs include the SULA Semester (Syracuse University Los Angeles), where students spend a summer living and working in LA. #5: UT Austin Journalism is a popular major at UT Austin, but there are also many helpful supporting departments, including Communication Media Studies and Digital Communication. Journalism at UT Austin- which boasts 18 Pulitzer Prize winning alumni- emphasizes digital skills training for all its students. The school's Specialty Communications Career Services Center helps journalism students find internships and jobs. There are also many relevant student groups on campus, including University of Texas Hispanic Journalists and ORANGE Magazine (UTââ¬â¢s student magazine). #6: NYU NYU is a highly-ranked school in general (with a highly-ranked creative writing program to boot). Journalism students at NYU choose between two undergraduate tracks: Journalism and Media Criticism. Both programs focus on professional ethics, the cultural politics of media, the social role of the journalist, and the importance of craft. Students are required to double-major in one additional field of study. This is great if you want a more liberal arts spin to your education, but not so great if youââ¬â¢re sure you just want to focus on journalism. New York City is a great place to study journalism- there are so many prestigious media outlets with headquarters there- but if you have international ambitions, you might be interested in NYU's Journalism Abroad Program: students study and work in Ghana, Czech Republic, China, and England. #7: Arizona State University ASU is a huge public university in a large city with a lot of opportunity for hands-on experience. The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication offers three bachelor's degree options: Journalism and Mass Communication, Mass Communication and Media Studies, and Sports Journalism. Students get training in live newsrooms under professional journalists. ASUââ¬â¢s PBS station- which reaches 1.9 million households- is also used as a teaching tool for students at the journalism school. At such a large school you'll be sure to find an equally large selection of student groups. Some relevant groups include the Fashion Journalists Club, the National Association of Black Journalists, and the Cronkite Cut. Phoenix is more of a metropolis than you might realize- and the area comes with some extra perks. #8: American University American University is located in DC, a perfect spot for aspiring journalists to get work experience (especially if you're interested in politics). In addition to the standard bachelor's degree program, American offers a unique joint BA/MA program. Undergraduate students choose from one of two tracks: Broadcast or Print Journalism. Investigative journalism workshops and practicums are an important part of the program. Other programs offered at the school include communication studies, film media arts, and public communication- all disciplines that play well with journalism. #9: Emerson College Emerson is located in Boston, just blocks from the state house. The program really strives to be proactive in embracing technological advances in the field- it adopted a new multimedia curriculum in 2011. Aside from journalism, other popular majors at Emerson include film, marketing, and digital communication. The college boasts several award-winning on-campus media outlets (including newspapers and radio stations). There is a wide array of interesting student groups, including Captured Emotion (dedicated to documentary and nonfiction work), spec (a group dedicated to the art of screenwriting), and Wax on Felt (a student record company). #10: Ohio University Ohio University offers its students a combination of a liberal arts + professional degree. Its mission statement says the school is committed to providing an education in professional ethics, critical thinking, and responsibility. There's a strong emphasis on the importance of media training while studying journalism. Student media groups on campus include The Post (a daily newspaper), Backdrop (a lifestyle magazine), and the interActvist (a progressive magazine). Bonus Schools These schools didn't meet the criteria to make the list above, but they still make great options for students who are interested in entering the field. Just because they didn't make the official list doesn't mean these schools aren't great places for aspiring journalists! UCLA UCLA doesnââ¬â¢t offer a dedicated undergraduate journalism degree- instead, undergrads can major in ââ¬Å"Communication Studies,â⬠which is much more broad (but still very applicable). Students can take courses in up to 12 different departments. The Communications Studies curriculum includes hands-on field study courses for students' junior and senior years which sounds like a great way to get relevant experience. Columbia Columbia also doesn't have an undergrad journalism major, but you are able to take courses through their top-rated graduate program. Since it's in New York, it comes with the same location advantages of NYU- not to mention that it's a top-ranked Ivy League school with a great creative writing program. How to Choose the Right School Like I mentioned earlier, the rank itself will matter less than whether the school offers everything youââ¬â¢re looking for in a journalism program. Follow these tips to figure out which of the best journalism schools listed above might be the best match for you. Check Out the Curriculum If you have special interests (or even if you donââ¬â¢t), youââ¬â¢ll want to check out the core classes and the available electives for each program. Different schools may also offer various concentrations or tracks within their journalism degree program- if thatââ¬â¢s the case, explore those different options. You donââ¬â¢t have to get excited about each and every course (especially when it comes to foundational or required courses), but you want to look for a school whose curriculum is aligned with your own interests. Learn More About Relevant Student Groups When pursuing a degree in journalism, itââ¬â¢s super important to get professional experience as a student- this will help prepare you for your job search. Is there a specific type of media that youââ¬â¢re very excited to work in outside of your classes? Is there a particular subject youââ¬â¢re passionate about working on? Student-run media is the place to do this. Some of these schools have more limited student media options than others. This may not be a problem if a program already has a group youââ¬â¢re interested in, but if not, you might want to check out other programs. Do Your Research on the Faculty The people who will actually be teaching you will make a huge difference in how much you get out of your education. Check out the type of work that they do- many top profs in journalism programs have achieved some serious professional success. You may also want to check out their ratings on ratemyprofessor.com, but remember that students are less likely to leave reviews if theyââ¬â¢re generally satisfied with the instructor- you get sort of a skewed perspective with the site, as you do with any ratings platform. Think More About the School in General A journalism program is (usually) only a part of whatever school you attend- your overall experience will also depend on the school more generally. Whatââ¬â¢s the student body like? Where is the school located? Whatââ¬â¢s the housing situation? If you arenââ¬â¢t happy with these (very important) aspects of student life at a school, chances are you wonââ¬â¢t be happy in the journalism program. To figure out what you should prioritize when looking for a college or university, check out our guide to choosing where to go to college. Finally, keep in mind that it's possible to pursue journalism at almost any school, regardless of whether it has a formal program. The most important thing is that you find opportunities to gain professional experience. You can do this by working at campus media outlets (like newspapers, magazines, or websites) or by seeking work off-campus as a student writer. What's Next? If you're thinking about becoming a journalist, you might also want to check out the top-ranked creative writing programs. Like I mentioned earlier in this article, you don't necessarily need a dedicated journalism program to enter the field. Getting into any top program means top grades, high ACT/SAT scores, and awesome extracurriculars. Check out our guides on those topics before reading more about the college application timeline. Working Towards a Cure for Cancer
Working Towards a Cure for Cancer Free Online Research Papers This article was about the how humans are working towards a cure for cancer. In recent years we have gotten closer and are still making a lot of progress. As quoted by George Demetri, ââ¬Å"Cancer drug development now is where antibiotics developments was in the fifties.â⬠T-cells are white blood cells that help the immune response. Now that we have made advances in blood bank technology, T-cell transfusions can finally be done. The T-cells are engineered using lentiviral vectors. The T-cells in patients are fixed so that they can fight the viral HIV and this has made a big step towards curing people. Antibodies are also used in Cancer Therapy. According to Donald Drakeman antibodies are the eyes and ears of the immune system, offering constant surveillance for viruses, bacteria, and other disease causing agents formed in the human body. Antibodies are Y-shaped proteins that use a ââ¬Ëlock and keyââ¬â¢ mechanism to attach to the antigens. The rest of an antibody can now be used to recruit other parts of the immune system to fight disease. The amount of monoclonal antibodies sales has gone up from zero to five billion dollars in a few years. The patients who also get MAbs are surviving longer and see less toxicity effects than previous treatments. Vaccines are being used for cancer therapy as well. The GVAX cancer vaccines are made from tumor cells that have been changed genetically to secrete granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF), an immune system stimulating hormone. Cell Genesys is developing a pharmaceutical that can be injected into someone. This will put active immune cells in the body after injection. GVAX has also shown a median survival of 26 months compared to 18-19 months with chemotherapy. I believe that the findings in this article are valid. Just about everything that the author said was backed up with scientific evidence and/or results from surveys. An example of the quality of the evidence was when the author was talking about MDX-010. MDX-010 is currently in the third phase of clinical trials and on a study of 29 patients, two appear to have no cancer remaining while several more have had the cancer shrink. This just goes to show that when the author was stating facts, they were actually facts. I think that cancer research will have some positive and negative effects, but more positive effects. Some positive effects would be that we could possibly find a true cure to cancer so no one will suffer from cancer anymore. If these cures could be found then we would have made a huge step towards the future of the world. The only negative effects that I can see coming out of this research is some bad side effects. There also might be problems in the research. I think that humans will be affected by cancer therapy greatly, especially if we can actually find a cure for cancer. My reactions to this new research were great. Iââ¬â¢m glad that there are newer and better ways to treat cancer and that people in the future wonââ¬â¢t have to suffer from cancer if we find this cure. I think that we will be able to cure cancer eventually. Research has shown good results in recent years and I think that the good results will keep coming in, eventually leading to a cure. This new finding will definitely affect society for the better. Since people are leading more constructive lives, those people will be able to live longer and give more to the well being of the society. I think that the best way to inform people of new cancer research is by the internet. Cancer foundation commercials could also be used to inform people about cancer as well. I am sure hoping that this cure to cancer will be found so that people will stop suffering from cancer and can live a longer healthier life!
